FLAGLER BEACH, Florida (June 10, 2015) — That’s the consensus of opinion every Tuesday at the Chapter 86 DAV luncheon. And that consensus is only reached because of the culinary skills of the DAV Food Service Specialists. On June 9, the women who serve our weekly DAV meals were formally recognized for their hard work, experience and expertise with quality food preparation, and their dedication to our members.
“Sure, all of the veterans say ‘thank you’ when they’re served a meal, but we all were pleasantly surprised that they thought enough of our efforts to honor us before the entire lunch crowd,” commented Soraya Farrah. “It really makes me feel good — like I could be making someone’s life just a little bit easier and possibly even a little bit better. Using my food preparation skills is one way for me to show that I really care about them.”
According to Commander Ray Parker who presented the certificates of recognition, “When the chapter’s Executive Committee discussed certificates of appreciation for people who go ‘over and above’ for our membership, the food specialists were topmost in our minds (and our stomachs!). There was no question they were very deserving and even overdue for formal recognition.”
“My parents always taught me to do everything to the best of my ability. That’s the mindset of all of us who prepare and serve the Tuesday meals,” notes Dawn Vello. “We try to make the best, most nutritious and tastiest food for our chapter veterans. That our cooking skills are so appreciated is really great to know. And it’s our little way of thanking them for their service of our country.”
